On
September 8th, 2001, an old King Bridge found a new home on an 88 acre parcel of
woodlands on the slopes of Overlook Mountain in the Catskills. The land, which
was affectionately referred to as "Snake Acres", was donated in 1998
to the Woodstock Land Conservancy by the late Woodstock artist Allan Edward
Sloan. The land is known as Sloan
Gorge and Quarry on West Saugerties Road. Additional information about
this land and other parcels preserved by the Woodstock Land Conservancy can be

.This 1887 half-hip, pony-style truss bridge is twenty-four feet long and was
also donated to the Land Conservancy by the Sloan Family and is now
located at the trailhead of the new woodlands trail.

Allan Edward Sloan and Great-great-grandson of Zenas King, the founder of the
King Bridge Company.

Zenas
King's great-great-great-great-grandchildren, cut the ribbon to open the new
trail. A trek through the woods and
rugged terrain included vernal pools, a gorge and two bluestone quarries.
