This page includes various collections of King Bridge Company documents, photographs, color postcards and several bridge builder plates (plaques) which were installed on the King Bridges and have either been salvaged or saved from now long gone King Bridges.  If you have any King Bridge Company memorabilia hiding in your attic and would like to share it with us, please send us a note.  We are also willing to purchase King Bridge items in order to preserve some of the family history.

SOME NEW MEMORABILIA ADDED

Since the beginning of the year, (2005), our family has been able to add four King Bridge Company plates to our collection, plus an old postcard of the Grand Avenue Suspension Bridge in St. Louis, once the pride and joy of Zenas King and his company. Three of the bridge plates are from railroads in the Midwest and are of the usual square design. One, however, is an 1878 plate of an unusual design with the base of a ‘crown’ on top. This “Kingly “crown design was probably very fragile and the Company stopped making this type in the 1880s.

This wonderful suspension bridge, once the pride of St. Louis, was torn down to make way for an “urban renewal project in the 1950s. Postcards and some pictures are all that remain.

A FINAL GOODBYE TO HOJACK ???

Finally, we had a chance to pass by the Hojack Swing Bridge in Rochester on our way to Toronto in June. My wife took the following picture of what may be our last look at this last remaining of the King railroad swings. The demolition crews have not yet moved in, but the death warrant has been signed. Any ideas on how this impressive bridge might be saved are welcome. Please keep checking toe Hojack Special section of our website.
